On Sunday, Senator Natasha Hadiza Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, launched significant educational projects in the region. These include the establishment of new schools in Osara for the Hausa/Fulani community and the comprehensive renovation of Abdul Azeez Atta Memorial College, Okene (AAAMCO).
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s initiative aims to transform AAAMCO into one of Nigeria’s most advanced secondary schools. The extensive reconstruction project will revitalize existing structures and add modern facilities such as Biology, Agronomy, and Mechatronics laboratories, a CBT center, an amphitheater, a music studio, an art and craft studio, staff quarters, and a sports center. Additionally, the school will receive new furniture, a 0.7 km internal road network, perimeter fencing, streetlights, water supply, and hostel rehabilitation. A key feature will be the implementation of a smart school system with electrified classrooms and digital learning tools for students.
AAAMCO, founded in 1927, has produced notable alumni including President Ibrahim Babangida and Professor Jerry Gana. Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan emphasized the importance of education, stating that her father’s education enabled her own success. She promised similar improvements for other schools in her district, aiming to convert them into smart schools.
The senator also commenced the construction of primary and secondary schools in Osara, fulfilling campaign promises made to the Hausa/Fulani community. These new institutions will feature classrooms, administrative buildings, libraries, laboratories, staff quarters, clinics, sports facilities, and boreholes.
Dr. Nuhu Abubakar Jalido, Youth leader of the Miyetti Allah Kogi State chapter, expressed gratitude for the project, highlighting its potential to change community perspectives and improve access to quality education.
