Motorists and commuters using the Ado-Odo/Abeokuta expressway can expect relief soon as Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, announced that his administration has awarded the contract for the reconstruction of the 63km road.
Governor Abiodun made this announcement at Ilaro during the commissioning of the Ilaro-Iwoye-Owode road in Yewa South Local Government Area. He emphasized that the road’s reconstruction is part of his administration’s efforts to address the state’s infrastructural deficit.
Describing the Ado-Odo/Abeokuta road as the second busiest in the country, Governor Abiodun noted that its completion would facilitate the movement of goods and services from the area to other parts of Nigeria via the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
He also mentioned ongoing construction on the Sagamu-Papalanto road and the progress on the Papalanto to Ilaro section. “We have just awarded the Ado-Odo/Abeokuta road project. It will be the most expensive road reconstruction by this administration, covering 63 kilometers,” he stated.
Highlighting the road’s economic importance, he said, “This road is crucial for the economy of Yewaland, Ogun Central, and the entire Ogun State. It enables the transport of goods from Ado-Odo/Ota through Papalanto, connecting to the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.”
Governor Abiodun also highlighted other achievements, including the construction of affordable housing in Ilaro and the completion of eight to nine roads in the Ogun West Senatorial District. He emphasized his administration’s commitment to balanced development across the state.
The governor noted that his administration’s focus on infrastructure aims to attract investors, thereby boosting the state’s economy. He assured that all abandoned projects impacting the people’s lives would be completed.
Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi) of Ogun West Senatorial District praised the road project, stating it would save lives by reducing accidents, kidnappings, and robberies. He expressed confidence that the improved infrastructure would revive businesses in the area.
Former Governor Aremo Olusegun Osoba commended Governor Abiodun for prioritizing people-oriented projects and urged him to continue with urban renewal programs to further open up the state for economic prosperity.
Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, noted that the road’s reconstruction would bring socio-economic development and attract investors, creating employment opportunities for the youth.
The Olu of Ilaro, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, appreciated the governor and National Assembly members from the district for their efforts in changing the region’s narrative and fostering economic growth. He acknowledged the road’s neglect by previous administrations and commended the current government for its commitment to development.
The event concluded with the road’s inauguration by former Governor Osoba.
