Kwara Governor Inaugurates CNG Converted Vehicles in Landmark Event.

In a significant move towards sustainable energy, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has inaugurated the conversion and installation of the first Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles in Ilorin, the state capital. This milestone event, held at the Rolling Energy Station, marks a pioneering effort in Nigeria’s transition to cleaner and more cost-effective energy sources.

Governor AbdulRazaq highlighted the significance of this initiative, describing it as a groundbreaking development in the country. He emphasized that CNG vehicles are not only safer but also more economical compared to traditional petroleum-powered automobiles. “What we are witnessing today is the beginning of a new future marking our new lifestyle. This is the direct benefit of President Bola Tinubu’s removal of the oil subsidy,” he remarked.

The governor revealed that the state government has already converted 20 of its petrol-engine vehicles to run on natural gas, with plans to convert more in the near future. “We have converted 20 government vehicles to CNG for test-drive; we shall convert all in a few months,” AbdulRazaq stated, underscoring the administration’s commitment to this energy transition.

Governor AbdulRazaq also pointed out the broader economic benefits of this initiative, particularly in terms of job creation. He assured residents that the conversion process is both safe and cost-effective, which would, in turn, stimulate local employment opportunities, especially for the youth.

During the event, Mubarak Danbata, the Chief Executive Officer of Rolling Energy Station, encouraged everyone to support the Presidential Conversion of Natural Gas Initiative (P-CNGi). He expressed the company’s readiness to align with President Bola Tinubu’s vision of reducing reliance on petrol. “I am free to announce our readiness for President Bola Tinubu’s decision to reduce our dependence on petrol. We are poised to join the government to increase resilience and provide reliable services to the state,” Danbata declared.

Danbata also mentioned that the Rolling Energy Station has the capacity to convert six petrol vehicles to CNG daily, showcasing the station’s efficiency and readiness to support this green initiative.

Additionally, Michael Oluwagbemi, the coordinator of P-CNGi, urged the public to embrace this forward-looking approach. He praised President Tinubu for his foresight and determination in steering the country towards a sustainable future. “This is a significant leap into the future, and I commend President Tinubu for his visionary leadership,” Oluwagbemi said.

This landmark event not only sets a precedent for other states but also reinforces Kwara State’s role in pioneering sustainable energy solutions in Nigeria.
