Ex-Kogi Political Appointees Plead for Unpaid Salaries in Open Letter to Governor Ododo.

The Forum of Political Appointees under the Wada Administration (2012-2016) has made a public appeal to Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, urging him to settle outstanding salary arrears. The appeal was detailed in an open letter to the governor, highlighting the appointees’ financial hardships.

The letter, signed by Hon. Sadiq Abubakar Ainoko, Hon. Barr. Kayode Olowomoran, and Austine Alaba Medaiyedu, begins by congratulating Governor Ododo on his victory at the Kogi State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, describing it as a triumph for democracy.

The appointees under former Governor Idris Wada’s administration emphasized the dire need for payment of their three-month salary arrears. They recounted that they were initially owed four months’ salaries, of which only one month was paid by former Governor Yahaya Bello before leaving office in January 2024, with the assurance that Governor Ododo would address the remaining arrears.

The forum underscored their loyalty and support for Governor Ododo’s campaign, noting their active involvement in the campaign efforts, including securing a campaign office, printing materials, and installing billboards.

Drawing a parallel with a recent development in Ondo State, where Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa approved the payment of salary arrears for political appointees from former Governor Olusegun Mimiko’s administration, the forum expressed hope that Governor Ododo would follow suit.

The letter also referenced the recent passing of Dr. Ilemona, a former Director-General of Government House Administration, attributing his death to the inability to afford necessary medication, thereby stressing the urgency of their request.

The letter concluded with assurances of continued support and prayers for the success of Governor Ododo’s administration.
