Ekiti State Government Embarks on HPV Vaccination Campaign for 300,000 Girls.

The Ekiti State government has announced its initiative to vaccinate 300,000 girls across the 16 local government areas of the state against the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), a significant contributor to cervical cancer.

At the launch of the HPV vaccination campaign held at Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in Ado-Ekiti, Mrs. Olayemi Oyebanji, the wife of the governor, emphasized the importance of parents and guardians presenting their female children aged between nine and 14 years for immunization against HPV.

Addressing the attendees, Dr. Oyebanji underscored the campaign’s objective to safeguard the health and future of young girls and women in Ekiti State. She urged parents and guardians to seize the opportunity to protect their daughters and encouraged community members to spread awareness about the campaign.

Dr. Oyebanji highlighted the preventive nature of the vaccine, emphasizing that prevention is better than cure. Assuring parents of the vaccine’s safety, she emphasized its benefits in preventing cervical cancer.

Additionally, the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Oyebanji Filani, expressed confidence in the vaccine’s safety and efficacy. He stated that the state government aims to vaccinate 300,000 children during the five-day exercise. Dr. Filani emphasized that the vaccine has been approved by regulatory authorities like NAFDAC and WHO to prevent HPV, the primary cause of cervical cancer.

Dr. Filani emphasized that the campaign not only focuses on vaccinations but also aims to raise awareness about cervical cancer. By vaccinating girls, the state aims to provide them with protection against this devastating disease, ensuring they lead healthier and more fulfilling lives.

“Cervical cancer is one of the most deadly cancers,” Dr. Filani stated, highlighting the urgency of the vaccination campaign. He reiterated the state’s commitment to vaccinating over 300,000 girls, emphasizing the significance of this initiative in preventing cervical cancer and promoting public health.
