Edo House of Assembly Speaker, Blessing Agbebaku, announced that the assembly has achieved significant legislative milestones over the past year.
Since its inception on June 16, 2023, the 8th Assembly, comprising 24 lawmakers, has successfully passed 16 bills and adopted over 44 resolutions.
Highlighting their legislative output, he also mentioned the enactment of the Edo State Oil Palm programme and indicated that numerous petitions are currently under review across various committee levels.
The Speaker emphasized the assembly’s commitment to effective governance and continued legislative action to address the needs and aspirations of the citizens of Edo State.
Speaking during a media briefing in Benin on Wednesday, Agbebaku expressed optimism that the legislative measures, including the establishment of the Edo State Corps Governance Law 2024 and the declaration of ‘Beautiful Edo, Glorious Edo’ as the official state anthem, have positively impacted the lives of the people.

The Speaker emphasized the assembly’s commitment to effective governance and continued legislative action to address the needs and aspirations of the citizens of Edo State.
“In the year under review, the 8th Assembly has had a few challenges, but with the bond of friendship, comradeship, understanding and unity, the House stands tall.
“I would like to thank my fellow gallant, erudite, intelligent, dynamic, result-oriented and friendly legislators of the 8th assembly for their support, understanding and cooperation in the last 12 months.
“To Governor Godwin Obaseki, our gratitude is immense for the overwhelming support to this assembly.
“His goodwill and defence for democracy in the state is reserved for eternal adoration,” Agbebaku said.
Speaking on the fate of the three lawmakers suspended on May 6 over an alleged impeachment plot, the speaker said a committee had been set up to look into their suspension.
He said that from the committee’s report, the House would decide the next line of action.
