Bandits collect N6.2 million, bags of rice from Kaduna farmers

Bandits have reportedly received the sum of N6.2 million and four bags of rice from rural farmers in Kachia local government area.

The fee, it was gathered, was to allow the farmers go ahead with their farming activities.

Two weeks ago, bandits chased farmers who were cultivating their farms at Unguwar Jibo and Nasarawa-Azzara communities saying they would not be able to return until they are able to raise the sum of N100,000 each.

It was learnt that before accepting the N6.2 million, the bandits rejected the N725,000 raised by farmers, saying it was too small.

One of the farmers from of the communities who pleaded anonymity said: “Last week we were able to raise N725,000 for the bandits, which they rejected and insisted that we must raise something bigger. We started struggling since last week before we were able to raise N6.2m and four bags of rice.”

He disclosed that the bandits collected the money and the bags of rice in the axis of the neighbouring Katari village and asked them to continue with the cultivation of their farmlands.
