Again Clark urges Tinubu to end political crisis in Rivers

Chief Edwin Clark, an Ijaw leader, urged President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday, June 25, to intervene and resolve the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State.

The conflict between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his political mentor, Nyesom Wike, has escalated significantly.

The president had earlier stepped in which produced a peace pact signed by both parties.

The president’s political solution did not however last for long before the two parties went for each other’s jugular again.

Clark, who initially supported the president’s intervention, criticized the political resolution, alleging it favoured Wike, a member of Tinubu’s cabinet.

Despite the escalating crisis involving legal disputes and potential violence, Clark commended the president for maintaining neutrality in the matter.

He said the crisis will gradually die down if the statement is upheld by the presidency.

Clark therefore called on President Tinubu to help bring the troubling situation in Rivers to an end.

Clark in his letter to the president titled: “Chief Clark beseech President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to halt the threatening political crisis in Rivers state” warned that the situation could engulf everywhere if not contained now.

He said: “Specifically, I am calling on you to tread the path of great honour as a self-professed democrat in bringing the very troubling situation in Rivers State to an immediate end.  This is because not doing so will appear as the proverbial Caesar sitting on his oars when Rome was burning.  Let me remind you that the situation in Rivers State is like a banana peel and if nothing is done early, it could engulf everywhere.”

The elder statesman, who had fought former President Muhammadu Buhari for overlooking him during his birthday, hailed President Bola Tinubu for identifying with him on his 97th birthday.

“Before I end, I thank you for the very gracious message of congratulation which you sent to me on the occasion of my 97th birthday, and in fact, it was largely publicised both nationally and internationally. Let me assure you of my continued prayers as you steer the ship of our nation,” he said.
