Oladipupo Adebutu has stated that there is little to celebrate about the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun in Ogun State.
Speaking on Friday as the governor marked the first year of his second term, Adebutu, the 2023 gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), shared his views during the revalidation of his party membership at Odogbolu Ward Four, Odo Aloro in Odogbolu Local Government Area.
Adebutu, who narrowly lost the election to Abiodun by about 13,000 votes, criticized the governor’s performance, highlighting their shared hometown of Iperu in Ikenne Local Government. He expressed disappointment in Abiodun’s achievements compared to those of PDP-led states.
“It’s unfortunate that a PDP-controlled Oyo State under Gov Seyi Makinde, with fewer resources, has performed exceptionally well,” Adebutu said. “This demonstrates that the PDP is both responsible and service-oriented.”
He pointed out Makinde’s recent accomplishment in Oyo State, stating, “I was in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, where Gov Seyi Makinde commissioned a newly built 77km road. This was not just resurfacing an existing road but creating new roads through urban and rural areas.”
Adebutu contrasted this with Abiodun’s projects, saying, “My brother from Iperu was celebrating the resurfacing and expansion of a few kilometers of road. The difference between APC and PDP is clear. We understand governance, transparency, and delivering results even with fewer resources.”
He emphasized the competence of the PDP, “PDP is different, we are responsible and responsive, and we have mastered the art of good governance. Nigerians will eventually recognize the need to join us under the PDP umbrella to rescue our nation.”
Adebutu also mentioned his transfer of party membership from Ward Five, Iperu in Ikenne Local Government to Ward Four in Odogbolu Local Government, the birthplace of his late mother, Caroline Adebutu. He described the revalidation exercise as highly successful and encouraging, with over 100,000 new members registered across the state.
When asked for a response, Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser on Media to Governor Abiodun, stated that nothing less should be expected from an opposition member.
