Adamawa State Unveils Plan to Boost Food Production

Adamawa State has taken a significant step towards ensuring food security with the launch of Appacca, a new initiative designed to empower smallholder farmers and increase agricultural output. Appacca, which translates to “farming” in Fulfulde, the dominant language in Adamawa, focuses on providing farmers with access to improved seeds, fertilizers, and extension services. This comprehensive approach aims to address longstanding challenges faced by Adamawa’s agricultural sector, such as low productivity and limited access to markets.

The initiative will prioritize the cultivation of staple crops like maize, sorghum, rice, and cassava, which are crucial for ensuring food security in the state. Adamawa, with its vast fertile lands, has the potential to become a major food producer in Nigeria. Appacca’s success hinges on effective implementation and collaboration between the government, farmers’ associations, and the private sector. The initiative’s long-term goal is to transform Adamawa into a self-sufficient state in terms of food production, while also contributing to national food security efforts.
